More Rooms

Hello! Well, after a bit of a hiatus, I'm finally back to the blog!  And ... Rooms Play made a bit of a comeback too, although this year it was organized by SEAPP, and called Rooms Fall Apart: A Serious Play.

There were similarities to the first two installments of "Rooms" (small groups passing through and submerging into art installations/performances, themes like alienation, boundaries, body consciousness, emotions, etc.) And there were major differences (the non-linear route of the audience, the snatchers who [mis?]-guided them, and the space itself).  This year we got to install in MAP, and completely transformed the top two floors. And, like in 2011, our opening weekend was a featured part of Baltimore's Transmodern Festival.

I performed a stand-up comedy routine

to an odd audience

at a space called, 'The Undergroundlings'.

All of my jokes were plant-related.

Like...

Why does John Waters own so many ivy plants?

(( - Because he's such a big fan of DiVINE's! ))

!!!

For the [human] audience, my performance was standing-room-only.  I controlled laugh (and crickets)-tracks for the plants.  Each group threw cut flowers in response to my final (standing-ovation) joke.  But the plants, recognizing their beheaded brethren being thrown across the room, relentlessly boo-ed me off the stage, and the rest of the humans out of the room.

This was A Serious Play.

You can read more about the entire production here, and here.
